Apple ibooks

alrighty, im looking at buying an Apple ibook.

if you don't know, on the apple.com store, you choose what you want in it, more ram, bigger hd, etc. Well, wot im thinking of doing is getting the cheapest then buying extra ram, etc, and fitting it myself...

only thing is how easy is it?
ive heard its possible, but not if its easy or not. anyone ever done it? is it piss easy to do?

any advice would be beautiful.

Fitting extra RAM should be a doddle. The harddrives are a different matter, they don't make it easy. It's possible (did it on my PowerBook, got 7200rpms in there now and it flies) but you literally have to disassemble your laptop.

Apple doesn't bite although as a die hard and Mac Zealot I am pissed on this switch crap!!!

That aside...Buy the RAM over the counter. You can get it cheaper than through Apple. If you upgrade anything upgrade to the SUperDrive and more gigs.

RAM abounds...

I just bought the cheapest iBook.
installing the RAM was a doddle, remove the key board/ extreme card and pop it in.

Mines running 512mgs RAM can't remeber what the processor is (G4) the machine runs really well with 512,

I wish I got a bigger Hard drive, (I have a 40 gig external & my G4 Tower has 100gig, I network the 2 MAc's and share the storage) I'm down to a couple of gig on the laptop, sticking my music on doesn't help though.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">PPC probably still is "better" than x86-64 or x86-32, why else would the next generation consoles be built around IBM PPC?

After all the fanfare over "64 bit OS" it'll be interesting to see if the Intel Macs are using 32 or 64 bit chips.

It wouldn't surprise me if Jobs sold off Mac to Intel/Sony and went fulltime at Pixar. The guy's an old man. I'm surprised he's even still interested in computers ...

Should be an interesting couple of years anyway.
